Is Syllabus good for kids? Age and difficulty

Astronaut animals cross a 5 by 5 grid of pictures to collect stars of their color and then land on the moon. To move, you say a word that fits the picture you stand on and move one space for each syllable. Picking a word with the right number of syllables is the whole game.

What age is Syllabus for?

Box says 4+

We suggest 5+ with an adult helping, 6+ on their own.

A turn is say a word for the picture you stand on and move one space per syllable. Nothing is printed, but a child must think of a fitting word and count its syllables exactly, which many 4 year olds find hard. With a grown-up clapping the syllables a 5 year old can play, and a 6 year old can plan a route and play alone.

  • Easy to learn
  • 2 to 4 players
  • 15 minutes
  • About 5 minutes to set up (our estimate)
  • Competitive

No direct conflict between players. Content: Cartoon animal astronauts travel between pictures to recover forgotten dreams. Nothing scary.

Rated from the rulebook, checked 2026-10-12

How we rate games

Rules as of the Gigamic English rulebook (2023).

Also good for 5, 6 and 7 year olds.

Where do these facts come from?

Age, players and play time come from the publisher. The difficulty and our age suggestions come from reading the official rulebook. We have not built a lesson or setup guide for Syllabus yet.
